Gum disease Preventive Measures

Did you know that gum disease is untreated at its earlier stage can lead to tooth loss?  True, you may find gum disease a simple and easy to resolve health problem but this type of disease work silently.  You will never know when it will attack your body. Therefore, it is best if you prevent gum disease from happening.

Here are some gum disease preventive measures:

  • Brush your teeth every day. You may find it tiring or tedious at times to brush your teeth on a regular basis however; brushing eliminates plaque build up. Moreover, the procedure also lowers the chance of having bad breath.  You will notice the difference when you brush your teeth twice a day, your mouth feels fresh and you will not hesitate talking to anyone in the crowd.  This is because you know you do not have bad breath or stain on your teeth.
  • Use dental floss after brushing. It is recommended to floss your teeth to remove stains that are unreachable when brushing.
  • Evaluate your dental tools (toothbrush and toothpaste). In ensure that you and your family will not acquire gum disease, it is best to check your toothbrush and toothpaste on a regularly. You need to make sure that your toothbrush function properly. If you feel that your gums and teeth are sensitive immediately switch to toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Having sensitive gums and teeth will restrain you from eating your favorite food.
  • See your dentist often. There is nothing to be afraid of. Your dentist’s know what to do about your teeth.  Twice a year a prophylaxis or dental cleaning is recommended to ensure that your teeth and gums are well attended.  Moreover, if you have children it is best to bring them once in a while to see your dentist so that they will not fear the sight of him or her. In this way, your dentist will be able to teach your children the proper way of brushing and flossing their teeth.

Generally speaking, taking good care of your teeth is simple and easy. It only takes diligence in cleaning it up.  As parents or guardians, children need guidance in how to properly take good care of their teeth. It is your role as parents to guide your children at the same time you are responsible for your own. This guidance will be passed on to your children’s children. Thus no gum disease will arise.
